It may sound like a basic question, but for some of us, the idea of buying cannabis from a store seems a little…unusual. So, if you’re going to a dispensary for the first time, let’s begin here.

A dispensary is simply a store that sells legal cannabis products. It’s a little like going to a wine store—in that you must be 21 or older—and it’s a little like visiting a high-tech plant nursery! At Cloud Cannabis, you’ll find interactive sample jars of the different cannabis flower strains we carry, along with displays showing the many types of concentrates, edibles, topicals, and other cannabis products. 

Most importantly, you’ll find something very unique at each Cloud Cannabis Michigan dispensary: Our highly knowledgeable and friendly budtenders. Whenever you have a question—anything from “what is a dispensary?” to “what is the cannabinoid ratio of this sativa-dominant phenotype?”—they’ll be happy to help guide your journey.

Cloud Cannabis Basics: Can I Go to a Dispensary Without a Card?

Yes, if you’re 21 or older, you can visit any of our recreational stores without a medical card. However, if you’re visiting a medical-only store, such as Traverse City or Detroit, medical cannabis patients must have a valid Michigan Medical Marijuana Program (MMMP) card under Michigan’s cannabis law.

Are you registered as a medical cannabis patient in another state? Cloud Cannabis welcomes most out-of-state cardholders. But be sure to bring your physical or digital card (if applicable). Otherwise, there’s no way for us to look up whether or not you’re a valid cardholder.

For both medical and adult-use customers, you’ll need to have a valid state-issued ID. Under Michigan law, you must be 21 or over to purchase cannabis products.
